City Center 2026 Board Retreat Recap

City Center BID Board Retreat: Building Alignment for What’s Next

Last week, the City Center BID Board of Directors convened for a strategic retreat to align on shared priorities for the year ahead. The session brought together board members representing a wide range of downtown perspectives—including hospitality, small businesses, and arts and culture—to focus on one thing: how we can best support a stronger, more vibrant City Center.

What we worked on

The retreat was designed to help the Board strengthen how we work together and sharpen our focus on outcomes. Throughout the morning, we centered on City Center’s mission and the role the Board plays in guiding district direction. From there, we moved into structured discussions to identify what’s working, what needs attention, and where City Center can make the greatest impact.

Key themes that emerged

Across the conversation, a few consistent themes rose to the top—especially the importance of clear communication, strong partnership, and programming that supports a positive downtown experience. Board members also emphasized the value of coordinated outreach and activation efforts that help increase awareness and engagement in City Center.

How we’re strengthening governance

In addition to strategy, the retreat included a practical refresh on board responsibilities and meeting best practices. This was an intentional part of the day: when a board is aligned on both vision and process, decisions are clearer, accountability is easier, and the work moves faster.

What happens next

Following the retreat, staff will compile a summary of the high-level outcomes and translate priorities into an actionable roadmap with measurable next steps. The Board will continue this work in upcoming meetings, including tracking progress and identifying ways board members can actively support implementation through partnerships and engagement.

We appreciate everyone who participated and contributed to a productive, forward-looking day. City Center is strongest when businesses, culture, and community come together—and we’re excited to build on this momentum.
